NAWBO Members Among 2008 Torchbearer Award Recepients: On Tuesday, January 22nd the Indiana Commission for Women presented Torchbearer Awards to members Billie Dragoo (Entrepreneiral Advocacy) and Diana Brenner ( Architecture). The Torchbearer Award is the highest award presented only to women by the State of Indiana. Each of the award winners received a gold medallion inscribed with "Lady of Victory" and the official seal of the State of Indiana. The Women's Campaign School at Yale University is a bi-partisan, not-for-profit organization who's mission is to train and equip women to run for public office with the long term goal of positively impacting the public dialog through a more balanced representation. Their 5 day annual summer session is scheduled for July 16 - 20.

Lending Program Designed to Assist DBEs to Grow Their Businesses

The U.S Department of Transportation, Office of Small an Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OWSDBU) has  program that is designed to assist Disadvantaged Business Enterprises to grow their businesses. The Short Term Lending Program (STLP) wa created by the OSDBU to offer certified DBEs the ability to obtain short-term working capita at competitive interest rates. The STLP provides revolving lines of credit to finance accounts receivable arising from transportation-related contracts.

The Passing of Congresswoman Julia Carson

The NAWBO-Indianapolis extends its deepest sympathy to the family and  friends of Julia Carson. Though her death brings great sadness, their is relief now that she is at peace. Congresswoman Julia Carson was a brave and inspirational woman who has left us all with a wonderful legacy of leadership and service to all. Memories of her zest for life, willingness always to share and give to other will not be forgotten. Her humor, wisdom and resolve will always be with us.

NAWBO National Dues Increase and Ever-Increasing Benefits

In order to continue providing ever-increasing benefits and higher quality services, NAWBO National will increase its dues effective January 1, 2008. Membership fees will increase $50 for new members from $100 to $150, with no administration fee. For renewing members, the fee will increase by $25 increments over the next two years. In 2008, renewing members will pay $125 and in 2009, renewing members will pay $150.

Renewing members have the opportunity to lock in their current national dues rate for the next two years by joining or renewing between October 1 and December 31, 2007. After this two-year period, the national member rate will increase to $150.
