TERESA MORTON BIO:
Teresa E. Morton is a partner in the Indianapolis, Indiana office and a member of the Energy, Telecommunications, Transportation and Utilities Department. Her practice concentrates on the energy, telecommunications and video/cable industries. She also works with consumers of energy and telecommunications in the negotiation of customer specific contracts and related matters; with developers, property owners and colleges and universities on energy, telecommunications and technology issues; and with woman and minority owned businesses and professionals. She is recognized in Best Lawyers in America in the categories of Communications and Energy Law and in the Indiana Super Lawyers 2004.
Ms. Morton’s practice includes litigation, transactional, legislation and appellate work, extending to access to public records, competition, customer specific contracts, deregulation, Energy Policy Act of 2005, excess earnings, fair value, Federal Communications Commission matters and licensing, fuel cost adjustments, home run and inside wiring, Indiana’s 2006 telecommunications reform and state issued video and cable franchising (HB 1279), interconnection, Internet, licensing, mergers and acquisitions, Over-the-Air Reception Devices such as antennas and satellite dishes, perpetual cable contracts, nuclear energy, pole attachments, protection of confidential information, ratemaking, reverse rate cases, telecommunications relay, the Telecommunications Act of 1996, total service long run incremental cost and total element long run incremental cost studies, win-back, video/cable franchising and other regulatory matters.
Ms. Morton is chair of the firm's Client and Community Relations Committee and a past chair and current member of the Diversity Committee, and formerly served on the Recruiting Committee. In 2007, Ms. Morton was profiled in MultiCultural Law Magazine as a supporter of law firm diversity. She is actively involved with numerous community organizations, including the Indianapolis Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners. She serves on the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis board and is a member of the St. Matthews Finance Commission. She is also a member of the United Way of Central Indiana Tocqueville Society and the West Liberty State College President's Club. Ms. Morton has also served on the boards of the Central Indiana Women's Fund and the Eiteljorg Museum, and has been involved with numerous community organizations. She is a former chair of the Utility Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association and served as an officer in the Electric and Telecommunications Divisions of the Utility Law Section. She has served on the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission’s Practice and Procedures Committee, as well as the Utility Law Section representative on the Indiana State Bar Association’s Certification of Specialties Committee.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Morton worked for more than four years in the radio broadcasting industry.
