WALMART JOZ PROGRAM

PROGRAM OVERVIEW
In April 2006, Walmart Stores, Inc. announced its Jobs and Opportunity Zones (JOZ) program as a reflection of the company’s commitment to making unique and sustainable contributions to the communities where it operates. To offer an even greater economic boost to these communities the company partners with local chambers of commerce, business groups, minority chambers of commerce and minority and women-owned businesses within 10 designated JOZ zones to direct hundreds of thousands of dollars in grants to support local business development. As a result of the program, thousands of new jobs have been created and hundreds of thousands of dollars have been distributed to local business organizations to support economic development in the JOZ anchor communities.

Each Zone encompasses a Walmart store and a host of local businesses and suppliers with which Walmart will work to increase job creation and economic opportunity in surrounding neighborhoods.

PROGRAM PURPOSE
To partner with local economic development organizations to provide resources for growth and development to local small businesses. These resources include economic development and marketing grants as well as in-kind support through additional resources.
