EXPERIENCE THE 'VILLAGE EXPERIENCE' [posted June 21, 2010]
New member, Kelly Campbell, is holding a NAWBO-Indy Members Only event at her store, The Village Experience, on Tuesday, June 29, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Village Experience is a fair trade store located at 6055 N. College Avenue (southesast corner of 61st and College). Kelly has traveled the world helping women and their children out of poverty by teaching the women how to develop sustainable businesses. BE A BOI INSTRUCTOR! NAWBO-Indianapolis has collaborated with the Business Ownership Initiative of Indiana (BOI) to offer a unique opportunity to NAWBO-Indy members!
As a member of NAWBO-Indy, you have the opportunity to participate as an instructor for classes offered by the BOI. In order to be considered as a BOI trainer, you must be a NAWBO member in good standing with at least one year of membership. If you are interested in participating as an instructor, download an application.
The Business Ownership Initiative of Indiana (BOI) is the only nonprofit agency of its kind in central Indiana — no other agency does what BOI does. BOI helps people create and develop their own small businesses and serves 10 counties: Marion, Hamilton, Hancock, Shelby, Johnson, Brown, Morgan, Hendricks, Putnam and Boone.
NAWBO-INDY AND WALMART STORES, INC. PARTNER TO HELP PROMOTE MEMBERS' BUSINESSES
To help our members promote their businesses, NAWBO-Indianapolis began a partnership with Walmart Stores, Inc. and its Jobs and Opportunity Zones (JOZ) program on a new marketing initiative in January 2009. The Walmart JOZ program was created to spur economic development and job creation in underserved communities.
The NAWBO-Indy/Walmart JOZ program focuses on women-owned businesses located in the Lafayette Square area in Indianapolis surrounding the Walmart Supercenter at 4545 Lafayette Road (46254).
NAWBO-Indy members chosen to take part in this initiative receive free advertisements in local media outlets, including www.InsideINdianaBusiness.com, as well as appear as Walmart's In-Store Radio Spotlight at the Lafayette Road Supercenter.
To be considered for participation, NAWBO-Indy members must meet the following criteria:
- Business owner must be a NAWBO-Indy member in good standing
- Business must be located in the Lafayette Square area
- Business must be locally and independently owned
- Business cannot be a franchise
