At what moment in time did anyone decide to pursue entrepreneurialism?

As individuals, each of us has our own story to tell, that defining moment when we leave the familiar and write our own chapter. As executive director of the National Association of Women Business Owners-Indianapolis, I have the privilege of working alongside women who have shown the courage to do just that. These women have great aspirations, steadfast values, commitment to hard work and a passion for life.

The quality of leadership and membership of NAWBO-Indy becomes evident as it is the fastest growing chapter in the nation with more than 230 members. We continue to increase our membership and strive in a challenging economy through preparedness, making informed decisions, facing obstacles and working together to achieve our mission. We recognize that our success is not ours alone, but the collaborate support of individuals, businesses, governmental agencies and community organizations. Together, we are making an indelible footprint on communities throughout Central Indiana and beyond.

When we step back and look at the overall picture, the sheer number of businesses owned by women has significant impact on economic, community and public policy spheres. Recent statistics show that there are more than 10 million women-owned firms in the United States.

Looking toward the future, as executive director it is my plan to focus on identifying business opportunities, creating informative and meaningful workshops and webinars, growing the member diversity, developing new fundraising campaigns and designing programs and services that address the needs of Indiana women business owners.

I thank the board and its membership for this opportunity and we welcome other women-owned businesses to join us on this exciting journey.
